LOCAL LOWDOWN

Turbulence Over O’Hare āœˆļø

O’Hare Airport

Efforts to reduce overnight jet noise around O’Hare are hitting turbulence, as suburban leaders accuse the FAA and City of Chicago of stonewalling. At the center is Fly Quiet 21—a long-discussed plan to fairly rotate nighttime runways. While several alternatives were studied, the City submitted only one for federal review, which critics say offers the least relief. The FAA had promised to consider public input and all reasonable options, but now appears to be backtracking. Suburban leaders aren’t backing down and are demanding accountability to protect residents' peace and quiet.

Water Backup Plan šŸ’§

Starting Tuesday at 7 a.m., seven Northwest suburbs—including Elk Grove Village, Schaumburg, and Hoffman Estates—will temporarily switch to backup water supplies while crews repair a leak in a massive 90-inch water main. The fix is expected to take about five days, but officials say service should remain uninterrupted. The leak, traced to the area near I-90 and Elmhurst Road, affects the main pipeline delivering treated Chicago water to the region. Crews will work around the clock to get things flowing normally again.

Storage Plan Swapped šŸ—ļø

Elk Grove Village is selling a building it bought less than a year ago after realizing it was too small for storing municipal vehicles and equipment. The village will break even, selling the 62-year-old industrial site at 1201 Busse Road for $3.06 million to Chicago Wheel Service. As part of the deal, the village will provide $300,000 in TIF funds to support renovations. Meanwhile, officials have already moved on to a larger, 71,000-square-foot site nearby for their storage needs.
