LOCAL LOWDOWN

High School Chefs Compete at Harper College šŸ§‘ā€šŸ³ 

Over 150 culinary students from Districts 211 and 214 put their skills to the test at Harper College’s Culinary Competition. Modeled after Chopped, teams had 50 minutes to create tacos while showcasing technique, teamwork, and presentation.

Palatine High School won the District 211 title, while Buffalo Grove High School took the District 214 trophy. Students also toured Harper’s facilities and explored career pathways in the culinary industry, gaining hands-on experience in a professional setting.

Arlington Alfresco: A Summer Hit šŸ½ļø

What started as a pandemic fix has become a beloved tradition in Arlington Heights. Arlington Alfresco, the downtown outdoor dining setup, has transformed two city blocks into a lively, open-air restaurant district each summer. Surveys show diners and business owners love it—98% of visitors gave it a thumbs-up, and many restaurants saw revenue climb beyond pre-pandemic levels. With expanded seating, bustling patios, and a vibrant community vibe, Arlington Alfresco isn’t going anywhere. More details here ($).

Arlington Heights Seeks Community Feedback šŸ“‹ļø 

The Village of Arlington Heights is conducting a survey to gather public feedback on local housing and community development needs. Responses will help determine how federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds are allocated over the next five years to benefit low- and moderate-income residents. The survey is open until April 15, 2025.
